LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – The new JCPS elementary school being built in Norton Commons now has list of names that will be narrowed down in the coming months.

The school won't be educating students until the 2016-2017 school year, for now, it just needs a name.

Norton Commons Tweeted a list of six names Wednesday evening that were narrowed down to three.

The six included:

  • Jack Crowner Elementary
  • Diane Porter Elementary
  • Steve Tyra Elementary
  • Norton Commons Elementary
  • Mary Norton Shands Elementary
  • Sherry Jelsma Elementary

The final three names will go to the district and the district will, in turn, recommend one of the names for board approval later this year.

The finalists are Jack Crowner, Steve Tyra and Norton Commons.

Norton Commons Elementary would be self-explanatory. Steve Tyra is a longtime JCPS principal who just retired from Bowen Elementary School. Jack Crowner was a longtime broadcaster in Louisville who passed away in 2014.
