LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man is dead after a head-on collision in Georgetown, Indiana, Thursday morning, according to a news release from the Floyd County Sheriff's Department.

It happened just before 10 a.m. in the 7000 block of State Road 64, just west of Oakes Road.

According to the news release, 53-year-old Jerome Johannes was driving a white Toyota westbound on S.R. 64, while a woman was driving a red Honda Accord in the eastbound lanes.

"Vehicles heading westbound slowed for a driver to turn into a driveway, and Johannes was unable to stop in time and swerved into the oncoming lane," the news release states. Authorities say Johannes struck the other driver head-on.

Johannes was taken to Floyd Memorial Hospital, where he died of his injuries, according to the news release. The sheriff's office says the female driver was also taken to the hospital, but suffered only minor injuries.

The Floyd County Combined Accident Reconstruction Team (CART) was called to the scene, and will continue to investigate, the news release states. The sheriff's office says the team's findings will eventually be turned over to Floyd County Prosecutor Keith Henderson for review.
