LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - More than half a million dollars worth of counterfeit jewelry was on its way to Louisville recently before being seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The 1,100 pieces of designer jewelry was seized after CBP officers conducted express-consignment operations in Louisville.

“CBP is committed to enforcing trade laws at our ports of entry, protect our nation’s revenue and identifying individuals who brazenly attempt to import counterfeit merchandise into the United States,” Area Port Director Marc Hurteau said in a CBP press release.

CBP officers in Louisville process more than 40,000 items per night. They commonly seize things such as counterfeit checks, drugs, monetary instruments, fraudulent documents and intellectual property rights violations.

The largest ever seizure in this area came in 2012, when $12 million worth of goods were seized as part of a Super Bowl XLIX operation in Cincinnati.

The counterfeit jewelry headed for Louisville was valued at $562,729.
