LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) – Louisville’s record holder for most wins in a year is coming back for his senior season. Ace Kyle Funkhouser will return to the Cards.
Funkhouser announced the news on his twitter account Friday afternoon.
“Wanted to be the first to announce I will not be signing, and will return to the University of Louisville for my senior season.”
The right hander became the highest draft selection in program history when the Los Angeles Dodgers took him as the 35th overall selection in this year’s draft. However, the two sides were unable to come to terms on a contract prior to Friday’s 5 p.m ET deadline.
"Can't forget to thank the Dodger organization for selecting me in this year's draft," Funkhouser tweeted. "Wishing them the best of luck moving forward."
Funkhouser set a single season record for wins with 13 in the 2014 season. This season, he went 8-5 with a 3.20 ERA. He is a two time All-American.
