LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Seventeen people were rescued from floodwaters around noon Saturday after their kayaks and canoes overturned on a trip down the Blue River in Fredericksburg, Ind.

A large dislodged tree blocked much of the river, and the high water and swift current made it difficult for the boaters to avoid it. They all ultimately capsized.

From either the shore or the water, at least 17 people were rescued, some of which were children. Boats and ATVs were used in the rescue, which was complicated by the terrain and water conditions.

All those rescued are safe and OK.

Indiana Conservation Officers, along with responders from both Harrison and Washington Counties responded.
