LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say they arrested a woman after a 2-year-old child she was responsible for ran into the middle of the street.

It happened Saturday at 6 p.m. on N. 28th Street, near Crop Street.

Police say they went to the home of 43-year-old Cynthia Whitley after they got a report that she was neglecting a child while intoxicated.

When they arrived, police say they learned that a 2-year-old child ran away from the house and out into the street, "in immediate danger of serious physical injury or death."

Police allegedly found Whitley in the back yard, "oblivious to the location of the child." She was unsteady on her feet, had dilated pupils indicative of narcotics use and displayed "extremely erratic behavior," according to the arrest report.

Whitley allegedly admitted to taking several clonazepam pills and smoking synthetic marijuana. She was arrested and charged with first degree wanton endangerment.
