LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- LMPD homicide detectives are investigating after a man was fatally shot in the Portland neighborhood late Sunday.

Police say it happened around 11:30 on July 19 at 26th and Duncan. That's where police say the victim, now identified as 38-year-old Laymon Baker, was shot. He died from his injuries at University Hospital a few hours later.

Baker lived at a home in the 2500 block of Duncan.

LMPD detectives says they have persons of interest they want to talk to, but no one is in custody at this time.

Family members were at the shooting scene Monday morning to ask questions, but investigators are still searching for answers.

"Processing crime scenes takes quite a bit of time," said LMPD Sgt. Donny Burbrink. "Especially if you want to be thorough and collect every piece of evidence that you possibly want to get."

Anyone with information is asked to call the LMPD crime tipline at 502-574-LMPD (574-5673).
