LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One out of every four children in Kentucky lives in poverty, but the state is improving when it comes to their health.

Information released today by the KIDS COUNT Data Center ranks Kentucky 34th in the nation in overall child well-being.

The child mortality rate, percentages of low birth weight babies and children with health insurance all improved since 2008. The state also made improvements in the education, family and community sectors, but it shows 25 percent of Kentucky kids live in poverty.

Data for Indiana was also released, ranking the Hoosier state a little better.

It ranks at 32nd in the nation.
