Louisville woman accused of leaving child in car while inside restaurant

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville woman is in trouble with the law after police say she left an 18-month-old child in a vehicle unattended.

According to court documents, it happened April 12. That's when police say 44-year-old Nicole Urso left the child in the back seat of the car as she entered Sal's Pizza in the 800 block of Lyndon Lane. Police say the vehicle was running and the driver's side window was down when she exited the vehicle. The child was in a car seat, police say, but it was not secured with a seat belt.

Court documents state that Urso asked a customer in the restaurant to "keep an eye on the vehicle" as she entered the business and ordered an alcoholic drink and a pizza. When police arrived, the vehicle was still running and Urso was sitting on the deck of the restaurant, "smoking a cigarette and consuming an alcoholic beverage."

Police say Urso was a friend of the child's mother. She is charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a minor.
