LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Nearly a month after the Oldham County Board of Education suspended Superintendent Will Wells, his future is in question.

Board members met in a special session to hear an update on the progress of the investigation into Wells’ conduct.

“It's still ongoing," said the attorney hired by the school board to investigate the matter Mark Fenzel. “It's probably two to three weeks from being done, we can’t comment on it until it's done so that’s really about all we can say.”

Wells was suspended back in June after a meeting in which a number of performance concerns were raised.

"It was felt that there have been some concerns regarding some decisions that our superintendent has made in terms of an interpersonal relationship," said Joyce Fletcher in June, chairwoman of the Oldham County School board.

Those investigating the claims of a relationship say it is still too early in the process to comment on what the outcome may be.

“It's all secret and confidential at this point and when it's appropriate the results of the investigation will be shared with the public,” Fenzel said.

At the time of the suspension one board member wrote the following in Well’s annual evaluation:

"The ongoing turmoil by the superintendent's involvement with another board employee, whether real or perceived, by both the staff and the community have seriously eroded his ability to inspire confidence and leadership. I am tired of hearing about his issues and believe it is negatively impacting the district."

Well’s attorney says these are personal matters and have not effected his abilities as superintendent.

“He feels very strongly that the board is intruding into what is his personal affairs,” attorney William Walsh said in June.
