CLARKSVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- Police say a man is not just impersonating a police officer, he is carrying a gun. The Clarksville Police Department has been flooded with tips as officers search for the man.

About 7 a.m. Tuesday morning on South Clark Boulevard near the Clarksville Aquatic Center, a woman thought a white, unmarked police car was pulling her over. She became increasingly suspicious.

"She asked what agency and his name and he would not give that information to her," said Detective Todd McCutcheon with Clarksville Police.

Detective Todd McCutcheon says the man was in plain clothes and did not have a badge, but he did have a gun in a holster.

The woman started noticing more red flags. The man told her he stopped her for speeding, and took down her information off of her driver's license and registration. The man returned her information, then took off.

The driver was shaken, but she was not hurt.

Police say if you are concerned when police lights come up behind you, there are precautions you can take.

McCutcheon says to put on your flashers to let the officer know you are aware you are being pulled over. Slow down and stop at a well lit or well-populated place.

If you still do not feel safe or are unsure, call 911. McCutcheon says the call center will put a dispatch out to see if there is an officer in that area making a stop. If not, officers will respond to your location immediately.

The impersonator is a white man in his mid 20s, thin build, weighing 160-170 pounds. He has short brown hair and a hoop earring in his left ear. Police say this instance is the only report of this happening.

If you have any information, call Clarksville Police.
