Summer cookout honors combat veterans in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Summer cookouts are part of the American tradition, but not everyone has a chance to enjoy them.

That's why members of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association made their way to Louisville on Saturday from Fort Knox.

They visited homeless veterans living at the Salvation Army.

The group came up to honor their fellow brothers in arms and provide fellowship, serving up hamburgers and hot dogs. Members say it helps veterans feel a little more like they're at home.

"We brought our friends and families, we're gonna give them a nice home cooked meal," said Scott Burdett with the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association.

"Cook it out on the grill just like your summer BBQ back home, except this is their home, and we just want to give them a little bit of relief right now."

This is not the first visit for the group.

It also comes up nearly every Christmas, bringing home-cooked meals and stockings filled with gifts.
