LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Louisville City Football Club extended its winning streak to five games -- putting them into second place in the Eastern Conference -- with a 3-1 win over the Wilmington Hammerheads on Saturday.

After an early goal on a penalty kick for the hosts, Louisville took control of the game, winning space in Wilmington's end of the field at will. But it wasn't until stoppage time in the first half that Louisville's Matt Fondy won a corner with a driving run. On the ensuing corner, he headed in the team's equalizing goal.

Shortly into the second half, a pair of quick goals launched the visitors ahead for good.

Conor Shanosky got out ahead of Wilmington defenders to finish a free kick from Charlie Adams to notch City's second goal.

Shortly afterward, Adams won just enough space on the left side of the box to rocket a shot past Wilmington's keeper to put Louisville up 3-1.

"Our thought our reaction (to the penalty) was excellent," head coach James O'Connor said. "We didn't let that affect the outcome of the game.

"I thought our play, at times, was good. The chances we created were very promising."

Louisville City takes on Toronto FC II in Totonto Aug. 1 before returning to Slugger Field Aug. 5 to take on FC Montreal.
