Long-time Hodgenville Police Chief goes on trial today for 'official misconduct'

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --  A jury trial is scheduled for Monday for Hodgenville's police chief.

Chief Steven Johnson was charged with official misconduct in 2014.  he charges stem from a case in which Johnson released dash cam video to the media. The video shows LaRue County School Superintendent Sam Sanders' DUI arrest. Johnson pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Kentucky State Police charged Johnson because they say DUI tapes and dash cam footage of DUIs are only supposed to be used for court purposes or administrative reviews.

Johnson has been with the police department for more than 36 years. After Johnson pleaded not guilty, the judge and prosecutor took themselves off the case due to a conflict of interest.
