LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Officials with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office arrested a man who authorities say passed contraband to a Metro Corrections inmate.

Franklin Shanklin, 50, was arrested Friday evening after police say he passed illegal contraband to an inmate while Shanklin was working a contracting job at the Hall of Justice, according to official records.

The official police report says that around 6:30 p.m,, an official was notified that a contractor appeared to be "sliding something to an inmate."

The arrest slip says jail officials were told about the incident.

Police say a sergeant then reviewed the tape several times. Franklin was seen on the footage passing something to the inmate and the inmate swept it away with a broom, according to official records.

Officials "conducted a shakedown of the facility" in the area where the incident happened. The full results of the search are currently unknown because of the time it takes to search the area.

Police say at least one cigarette was uncovered during the search.

Shanklin has been charged with promoting contraband.
