LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) – Less than a week after fielding hundreds of questions from reporters at ACC Media Day, Louisville football head coach Bobby Petrino had to answer hundreds more at ESPN Monday.

Petrino participated in the annual ESPN preseason “car wash” series in Bristol, Connecticut.   He was the first ACC coach to stop by the SportsCenter set Monday morning.

Petrino reiterated what he told WDRB last week at Media Day about his quarterback situation. According to Petrino, if the season were to begin today, Reggie Bonnafon would be the team’s starter. Petrino also listed his must have for his number one quarterback.

“Knowledge of the defense.  I think one of the things we have always done a good job of is letting the quarterback get us out of a bad play,” said Petrino.

Petrino has said he hopes to name a starter two weeks before the season opener against Auburn.

Speaking of that September 5th game, Petrino told SportsCenter anchor Matt Barrie he was looking forward to the challenge of playing the Tigers right out of the gate. He has no regrets about scheduling the game and says it has served as motivation for his team during off-season work outs.

“It helped us in spring ball and all summer long,” said Petrino. “To be able to open with an opponent like Auburn, in a big game, down in Atlanta, it’s exciting for our fans.”

The Cardinals open up fall camp August 6th. Petrino said he was looking forward to build on his first season back with the team.

“Our players understand what it is we are going to in the meeting rooms and how we are going to go about our business on the practice field.
