UPDATE: Jeffboat employee dies of heart condition, according to Clark Co. Coroner
JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- An investigation is under way after a Jeffboat employee died while on the job.
Clark County Coroner Terry Conway released the following statement Wednesday:
"An autopsy was performed this morning on Mr. Sergio Torriente, age 40, of Louisville, by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, located in Louisville, Kentucky. Mr. Torriente was found unresponsive on the jobsite at JeffBoat, on July 28th. A preliminary cause of death was found to be hypertensive cardiovascular disease and an enlarged heart. At this time, his death appears to be natural. However, these results are preliminary, and are pending toxicological testing, which is standard procedure."
According to a news release from Jeffboat's parent company, Sergio Torriente was found "unresponsive in the shipyard early this morning during his regular shift."
Coworkers and first responders provided medical attention until he was taken by ambulance to Clark Memorial Hospital.
Clark County Coroner Terry Conway says Torriente, 40, who was from Louisville, was found near the keel section of a barge under construction. He was pronounced dead at 9:02 a.m. Tuesday
Conway says the cause of death is being withheld at this time, pending the results of an autopsy and toxicological testing, which is standard procedure.
