LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – FC Barcelona is described by Jon Hilbert, the Javanon Soccer Club Director of Operations, as “the Dallas Cowboys, LA Lakers and New York Yankees all wrapped up into one team.” That’s why there was an overwhelming response to a week-long camp conducted by coaches and former players from FC Barcelona here in Louisville.
More than 300 youth soccer players ranging in ages from 7 to 16 are taking part in that first FC Barcelona soccer camp at the Parklands of Floyds Fork.
The camp was organized by Javanon, who had 250 players on a waiting list to join the camp.
“The ten coaches they have brought are officially licensed coaches from the club. The kids don’t really understand, I think at this age, what benefit they’re getting by having these professional coaches come in, especially into Louisville, Kentucky. It’s just a wonderful opportunity for them to learn from the best club in the world,” said Javanon director of operations Jon Hilbert.
While this camp was full, there could be another camp on the way.
“The reception was incredible,” said FC Barcelona camp coach Bernat Villa. “We want to come back maybe next year or maybe (around Christmas), but of course we want to come back."
The current camp ends July 31st.
