LEXINGTON, Ky. (WDRB) - While former University of Kentucky 7-footer Karl-Anthony Towns was entertaining kids at the ProCamp in Memorial Coliseum Saturday, UK head coach John Calipari could have been finding out another (almost) 7-footer is on the way.
Isaac Humphries, a four-star, 6'11 forward from Australia who played in Indiana, will reclassify for the 2015 class and enroll at Kentucky, according to a CBSSports.com report.
Some see this as possible insurance in the case Skal Labissiere (who is listed at 6'11) is ruled ineligible, but Calipari says he believes Labissiere will be eligible to play when the season opens.
At Saturday's ProCamp media availability, Calipari said he could not comment directly on the possibility of Humphries joining the team, but he did comment on his recent international recruiting efforts, which includes Humphries (Australia), Labissiere (Haiti) and Jamal Murray (Canada).
“You know with me things just kind of happen," said Calipari. "Whether they’re from Lexington, Kentucky or Toronto, Canada or from Australia or New Zealand, who wants this? Because guys who play here, they’ll tell you – you’ve got to want this. It’s not something you can run from. You’ve got to run at it. And those are the guys that come here and have success. So it’s not been by design. But again, the guys we have, I don’t care where they’re from, they’re pretty good players.”
