LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --  Officials have released the name of the man who was killed in a motorcycle crash that happened Sunday morning near Dixie Highway.

Deputy Coroner Dave Wood has identified the man as 51-year-old John Stephen Vandeveer.

Wood says Vandeveer died from blunt force impact.

Police were called to the 11000 block of Flowervale Lane, near Dixie Highway, according to LMPD spokesperson Alicia Smiley.

The crash happened just after 3 a.m. Sunday, according to a MetroSafe dispatcher.

Police say Vandeveer was approaching a sharp curve at high speed, when he tried to apply the brakes. Officials say Vandeveer was thrown from the bike and hit a street sign and a tree. Authorities say he was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The bike hit a guard rail before coming to a rest, officials say.

Police say there were no other injuries.
