LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Abby Sutherland worked at the Overlook Restaurant in Leavenworth, Ind. for six years.

The 20-year-old’s death has sent shock waves through the community, felt particularly hard by those at the restaurant, like Karen Haverstock.

“You know she was like a ray of sun when she walked in the door,” Haverstock said. “She was always happy, she would do anything we asked her to do.”

Sutherland was killed in a car wreck over the weekend near Palmyra. Police say 21-year-old Dakota Alexander was driving and speed was a factor in the wreck. The car left the road and hit a tree before landing upside down back in the road. Alexander was injured and Sutherland died.

Friends say they were on their way back from a dinner date in Jeffersonville Saturday night. Sutherland was recently crowned Miss Crawford County.

“Everybody, I mean, they’re just devastated,” Haverstock said.

She also worked at heritage Ford and talked about going to cosmetology school.

The restaurant will be closed Tuesday for her funeral.
