Gas leak briefly prompts shelter-in-place order at U of L campus

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The all-clear has been given after a gas leak briefly prompted a shelter-in-place order on the U of L Belknap Campus.

The gas leak happened in the 2100 block of S. Floyd Street, just before 11 a.m. Contractors digging on construction on Floyd Street broke the gas line, according to U of L spokesperson Mark Hebert.

U of L Police briefly declared a Level One HAZMAT situation -- and a shelter-in-place order had been declared for several buildings in the area, including the Student Activities Center, the University Club and GE First Build building.

Since then, the gas leak has been capped and the shelter-in-place order has been lifted.
