LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville is among the first cities to get a piece of a new, $42 million program.

The city is one of eight chosen for the "What Works Cities" initiative. It's funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies  The program provides money to help mid-sized cities improve how local government collects and studies data.

That includes applying information to better address issues such as job creation, public health and blight.

Louisville leaders say they'll use the funds to make it easier for employees to collect information and ensure decision making is open and transparent.
