Detour planned for I-65 northbound bridge over Wildcat Creek in Indiana

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WDRB) -- A detour is planned for the bridge on I-65 northbound over Wildcat Creek after it was shut down on Friday afternoon.

The bridge was closed after engineers noticed movement in the riverbank pier, according to an Indiana State Police news release.

The following detour is planned while the bridge is shut down:

I-65 northbound will merge to one lane and traffic will be diverted onto U.S. 52 at Exit 141 north of Lebanon. Drivers will follow U.S. 52 north for nearly 17 miles, then turn left at State Road 28. Driver will then follow S.R. 28 west for about 10 miles, then turn right onto U.S. 231. and take U.S. 231 north for about 33 miles until it intersects with I-65 again in White County.

INDOT is planning to install temporary traffic signals at the S.R. 28 intersections with U.S. 52 and U.S. 231.

Engineers are watching traffic flow on U.S. 231 signals and adjusting timing patterns. Contractors have been asked to stop work where the official detour rejoins I-65 in White County.

INDOT is also making efforts to identify and clear alternate routes other than the official detour. All lane closures have been lifted on I-74 for motorists to travel.

Drivers may exit I-74 and head north on S.R. 63, U.S. 41 and U.S. 24 as an alternate route to I-65, officials say.

INDOT officials say updates will be provided new information becomes available.
