Mayor Fischer launches 40 Days of Peace Campaign

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - The 2015 Dirt Bowl Championship was held Sunday at Shawnee Park, but basketball wasn't the only reason for the event.

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and other community leaders helped announce a 40 Days of Peace Campaign, which will start Thursday.

Mayor Fischer says police are only one part of the solution to make the city safer. He says it comes down to every citizen playing a part.

"The reality is that you need to be the one to step up, whether it's 'I'm going to get my life on a good track', or it's like 'I can go mentor a child,' Mayor Fischer said.

"You be the one to make a difference. That's how you build a great, safe city."

The peace campaign will run through Sept. 21, which is the United Nations' International Day of Peace.
