LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police have arrested a man authorities say left his young children alone inside a filthy home.

Dominique Nance, 26, was arrested Sunday evening at his home in the 1200 block of Fisk Court, near South 13th Street.

The official police report says officers responded to the home after a 911 call was placed.

Police records say that officers arrived and found Nance's five children, all under the age of 6, had been left home alone. Investigators say Nance had left to go to the store.

Authorities say an eight-month-old child was found crawling on the floor, which was covered with broken glass, medication, dog feces, food, trash and dirty clothes.

The police report says the home's living conditions "were deplorable and very unsafe and unhealthy for the children."

The report also states Nance returned home and said "he did not understand why leaving them was an issue because he was just around the corner at the store."

Nance is charged with wanton endangerment.

He is being held at Metro Corrections on a $25,000 cash bond.
