LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police have arrested a man after he allegedly fired a weapon and hit a victim.

Patrick Brents, 20, was arrested Tuesday afternoon in the 200 block of South 5th Street, near West Jefferson Street.

Authorities say on Aug. 4, Brents fired a handgun and hit a victim once in the side.

Official police records state the victim was inside a home when he heard Brents allegedly state that he "should kill the victim."

Police say Brents and other people were playing dice inside a building behind the victim's home.

Investigators say the victim then went outside to confront Brents.

Brents and the victim became involved in a physical altercation, according to police. Officials say Brents then pulled out a handgun.

The victim tried to run away, but Brents fired the gun and hit the victim one time in the side, according to police.

Officials say the victim was able to locate a Jefferson County Sheriff who was in the area. Official records state that Brents fled from the scene.

The victim was taken by EMS to University Hospital. Police say the gunshot fractured four of the victim's ribs and lacerated his liver.

Authorities say the victim remains hospitalized.

Brents is charged with assault and is being held at Metro Corrections on a $100,000 cash bond.
