Shelby County schools mark first day of classes with personalized learning

Posted: Updated:

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Nearly 7,000 filled the classrooms at Shelby County Public Schools today.

The district reports a smooth return from summer.

At Simpsonville Elementary School, it's a day to get to know teachers and new classmates. One of the district's goals is to personalize learning for each student.

"Part of our mission statement is for kids to embrace their social responsibility, so having them be aware of how everything fits together: 'Why am I learning this? How does this fit into the big picture of my life?'" said Ryan Allan, spokesperson for Shelby County Public Schools.

It's part of a leadership plan the district put in place about two years ago.
