CRAWFORD | U of L cancels first game of Thursday Puerto Rico doubleheader

Posted: Updated:

SAN JUAN, P.R. (WDRB) -- The University of Louisville basketball program has canceled the first game of a scheduled doubleheader tonight in Puerto Rico.

Sports information director Kenny Klein made the announcement via Twitter. The Cards will change venues after two games in San Juan. They'll play Thursday in Guaynabo, on the northern coast of the island. Instead of the doubleheader, the Cardinals will play a single game at 8 p.m.

The Cardinals have played two "B" team games against the Puerto Rico junior national team. Both games have been close, a 6-point loss in the first game of the trip and a 79-77 defeat on Wednesday night.

Pitino hasn't been particularly happy with the play of his young players in either game. He said Wednesday night, "They should’ve won both games, but they don’t have the guard play."

The logistics of traveling with the Puerto Rico junior team may also have been a factor.

The Cardinals, in splitting the roster, have been playing several players in both games. The cancellation will allow them to have the full team focus on a single game. Tonight's was the last of three scheduled doubleheaders on the trip.
