LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- JCPS students are the first in the country to take part in a new, $11 million school program.

The University of Virginia is launching the Compassionate Schools Project in Louisville. It's part of a national study on health and wellness.

Elementary students will learn things like how to manage stress and to eat healthier.

"It will help you reach your full potential and give back to the community, because it will teach you things like how to be empathetic, and build within you the capacity to self-regulate and make appropriate choices," said JCPS superintendent Donna Hargens.

Students at Jacob, Cane Run and Slaughter Elementary schools will take part.
