Hopkinsville teen killed in freak accident at football practice

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – A 17-year-old was hit and killed by a piece of football equipment at practice in Hopkinsville, Ky.

Hopkinsville Police say Jayvon Corey Quarles was helping move a large, heavy piece of football equipment at the Hopkinsville Middle School practice field,  when it fell and hit him in the head.

Quarles was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 4:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

Police say they are still investigating the incident, but the teen was not wearing his football helmet at the time of the accident.

The first day of school in Hopkinsville is Tuesday.
