LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Cards gave the Puerto Rican Senior National Team all they had Thursday before falling 102-94 in overtime, and coach Rick Pitino saw a lot of improvement out of his young Louisville team.

"I had a talk with a lot of the guys," he said after the game. "I just told them we’re three months away from our game and you’re not having enough fun right now."

Pitino talked about getting his team to come together and play for each other more after a disappointing loss Wednesday night and he pointed to a lot of things his team did well Thursday night.

“Last night they were penetrating to get their shot. Tonight they were penetrating to get somebody else’s shot and that was a point of emphasis.”

Coach Pitino said he had a talk with Anas Mahmoud and Matz Stockman, telling the sophomores they needed to step into more veteran roles this year. He said both of them impressed him.

“[Anas] showed that he’s worthy of being a Louisville Cardinal,” Pitino said.

“It’s a great group. It’s a very special group, I got a great feeling about these guys and what they’re all about," he said “Tonight, a veteran team beat them mentally.”
