Vandals destroy playground equipment at Algonquin Park

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Vandals have struck again at Algonquin Park, this time setting fires that that destroyed playground equipment.

Metro Parks officials say it will cost $8,000 to $10,000 8 to repair the damage.

Police say the vandals set fire to playground equipment Wednesday night, leaving holes and dripping plastic where the slide used to be.

They also torched the tennis court.

The only other sliding board was destroyed by vandals last month, and still hasn't been replaced.

Officials say it will take a while to fix.

"This has an impact on all of our parks, our whole parks system," said Jon Reiter with Metro Parks. "Replacing this takes money away from something that we could use at another park ... so we really want this stopped.

Metro Parks Foundation is taking donations to help fund the repairs. Click here if you'd like to help.
