GE to expand manufacturing at Louisville's Appliance Park
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- General Electric is marking its largest laundry launch in 20 years at Louisville's Appliance Park, calling it another example of the company’s continued commitment to U.S. manufacturing.
GE will showcase its "latest investment in a new top load washer design and expanded manufacturing capability at its laundry plant" Tuesday morning in building 1 at Appliance Park.
The announcement comes in the midst of Electrolux’s planned $3.3 billion purchase of General Electric’s Louisville-based appliance division. The U.S. Department of Justice has filed suit to block the sale, saying it would "leave millions of Americans vulnerable to price increases for ranges, cooktops and wall ovens, products that serve an important role in family life and represent large purchases for many households.”
It also comes four months after a massive fire that destroyed Building 6 at Appliance Park, which was a parts storage facility. Fire officials have not been able to pinpoint the cause of the fire, but do not suspect foul play.
