LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) – Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops announced junior Patrick Towles as UK’s starting quarterback Monday.
Towles, who started all 12 games last season for the Wildcats, was able to beat out redshirt freshman Drew Barker for the position.
“Patrick is the guy,” said Stoops.” It was a good battle, Drew did some good things but once again, Patrick played exceptional on Saturday. I’m really encouraged by his progress.”
Towles completed over 57% of his passes for 2,718 yards and 14 touchdowns last season. He threw nine interceptions.
Stoops said Barker would see action this season but feels the team is at its best with Towles running the show.
“I think he’s much more comfortable. He’s making good decisions with the ball and he’s delivering it on time."
Kentucky opens up the season against UL-Lafayette on Saturday September 5th.
