LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – The Louisville Cardinals men’s soccer team is ranked 18th in the nation and has its sites set on a ninth straight NCAA appearance…and more.
The team finished 11-8-3 last season and 4th in the ACC Atlantic Division. The Cardinals season was ended with a 1-0 loss to UMBC in the third round of the NCAA Tournament at Lynn Stadium.
“Last year, we were a game short of the conference (title), a game short of ACC champs, and I think if we beat UMBC we’d win a national championship, “ said junior midfielder Romilio Hernandez at the team’s media day on Thursday. “I think if we all get on the same page and believe in ourselves, I think we can win everything.”
The Cardinals return 10 letterwinners from last year’s team. They will play eight of their first nine games at home.
“With this group in particular, having the friendly confines of Lynn, it is so, so important that we have an early (good) start,” said men’s head coach Ken Lolla.
Louisville opens the regular season August 28th against William and Mary.
