LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Florida man was arrested in the Louisville airport yesterday after running through the security checkpoint and he’s now facing federal charges, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

David Patton, 36, has been charged with resisting, opposing, impeding and obstructing a federal officer and entering an airport area in violation of security requirements.

When Patton ran through the security checkpoint about 2:20 p.m. Thursday, officials say he was immediately apprehended by officers.

Officials say Patton was issued a gate pass to escort his grandmother to her gate and during security screening he was asked to remove items from his pocket, at which point he ran through the screening area. He was stopped and removed from the area.

TSA agents say they saw Patton eat something and throw what was later discovered to be heroin. Officials say Patton admitted to leaving the checkpoint because he knew he had drugs in his pocket.

He has also been charged with possession of heroin and is being held at Metro Corrections.
