BOZICH | Bobby Petrino Being Coached Up -- By Eric Crawford

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Bobby Petrino has learned football from a string of football coaches – his father, Bob Sr.; Bruce Snyder at Arizona State, Tom Coughlin of the Jacksonville Jaguars and former University of Louisville coach John L. Smith.

I’m sure there are others.

In fact, there is one other name to add to the list – WDRB columnist Eric Crawford.

One day after Crawford suggested that Petrino had no reason to announce his starting quarterback prior to Louisville’s opening game against Auburn on Sept. 5, Petrino took that advice and moved it up a notch.

On Saturday morning, after the Cardinals finished a 60-minute scrimmage at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, Petrino said he might not name his quarterback, or any starter, before his team gets to Atlanta in two weeks.

Why?

“We all heard Eric Crawford (Friday),” Petrino said. “He had the best idea I’ve ever heard.

“So I think we’re going to be coachable and take Eric’s coaching and keep this thing. Why name … what’d he say? Why name the starter? At any positions.

“That’s one of the things I’ve always prided myself on was continuing to learn. So I’m going to continue to learn.”

Petrino was kidding.

I think.
