Hundreds protest outside Planned Parenthood in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - They say Planned Parenthood is hurting Louisville.

And Saturday hundreds of protesters hit the streets asking the government to stop supporting it.

Robert Ham of Lexington held up a sign protesting outside Planned Parenthood in Louisville.

Hundreds of others joined him, gathering on both sides of South 2nd Street.

"How could you not stand against such atrocities?" Ham shouted.

Thousands rallied across the country during the national protest.

One was in Washington, D.C., where earlier this month a procedural vote in the senate failed, which would've cut all federal funding to Planned Parenthood.

Protesters in Louisville want the organization to lose federal funding after undercover videos came out allegedly showing the trafficking of aborted baby parts.

"People are saying 'enough'," Ham said. "Enough to the grotesque and inhumane slaughter and then sale of children's dismembered parts."

Pro-life groups, local pastors and churches all took part in Saturday's protest.
They say they want to send a message that Planned Parenthood is bad for Louisville.

"We believe life is sacred in all its forms,"  said Stephen Bowling, Director of Family Ministries at the Archdiocese of Louisville.

"Over 500 people came out to voice their opposition to the current federal funding of Planned Parenthood," Bowling said. "We wanted to make it a grassroots effort locally so our voices can be heard."

It is legal for companies to pay for the processing and transportation costs of donating fetal tissue.

Planned Parenthood executives say the organization has done nothing wrong, arguing the videos were unfairly edited.
