Westbound lanes of I-265 in New Albany re-opened following car fire

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The westbound side of I-265, near Charlestown Road in New Albany, was down to one lane on Monday due to a car fire, according to Indiana State Police Sgt. Jerry Goodin.

Sgt. Goodin said the fire happened sometime between 11:30 a.m. and noon. Traffic in the area became backed up because of the fire.

Officials say a chain reaction crash happened as a result of the traffic backup.

Police say a white F350 Ford crashed into the back of a Chevy cargo van. The Chevy cargo van went into the rear of a Ryder rental box truck. As a result, the driver of the Chevy cargo van became trapped.

Officials say the driver of the Chevy cargo van was cut out of the vehicle and flown to U of L Hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Ford was taken by ambulance to U of L Hospital, according to police.

The driver of the Ryder van was not injured.

Police say the area re-opened to traffic around 2 p.m.
