LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – The Oldham County Chamber of Commerce wants the county to expand alcohol sales and they say they have 6,000 supporters.

The Oldham Chamber submitted 6,000 signature cards to the Oldham County Clerk Monday, in support of the organization’s request for expanded alcohol sales in the county.

The campaign for a petition started in April and the board needed 5,800 signatures by September. However, state law does not allow a special election within 30 days of a primary or general election.

“We are hoping the County Clerk will expedite the process of verification,” said Deana Epperly Karem, Executive Director of the Oldham Chamber & Economic Development. “We have worked hard to verify the cards as they have come back and we are confident they are almost 100 percent accurate making the Oldham County Clerk’s job much easier.”

More than 40,000 cards were sent to registered voters and the process for a special election requires 25 percent of the votes cast in the general election be submitted to the county clerk.

The chamber wants to the vote to be held Tuesday, Sept. 29.
