Judge dismisses lawsuit against Kentucky bourbon producer

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit accusing a Kentucky bourbon producer of false advertising.

Scott Welk took Jim Beam to court, claiming he bought a bottle of its bourbon because the label said it was "handcrafted."

The suit said Jim Beam sells the product at a higher price because of that claim.

A federal judge threw the case out, saying a reasonable consumer wouldn't interpret "handcrafted" to mean the whiskey was literally created by hand.

Similar suits against Maker's Mark bourbon were also dismissed this year.
