Archbishop Kurtz appoints new pastor for St. Margaret Mary

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - St. Margaret Mary has named a new pastor.

Fr. Bill Hammer, the current pastor of the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown and St. Michael Parish in Fairfield, is the new pastor at the St. Matthews parish, according to the Archdiocese of Louisville.

Fr. Hammer succeeds Fr. Stephen Pohl, who was arrested earlier this month on federal child pornography charges.

Fr. Hammer, who was appointed by Archbishop Kurtz, gave a statement regarding the hiring:

I look forward to listening to and getting to know the people of St. Margaret Mary so that I know best about how to serve them during this very difficult time.  I know St. Margaret Mary to be a vital parish with many strengths, and I am confident that with the help of God's grace, we will move forward together.  I am humbled that Archbishop Kurtz discerned that my experience allows me to serve as this community’s pastor.
