LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Governor Steve Beshear has proclaimed September to be "Bourbon Heritage Month" in Kentucky.

This marks the eighth consecutive year Gov. Beshear has issued the proclamation.

According to a news release, the number of distilleries in Kentucky has tripled since Gov. Beshear first took office in 2007.

Due to the bourbon industry's boom, the number of jobs and production levels have increased.

“The skyrocketing success of our legendary bourbon industry is one of the biggest and proudest highlights during my two terms,” Gov. Beshear stated in a release. “I’ve been honored to break ground at new distilleries, cut ribbons on innovative tourism centers and even bung a few barrels."

Kentucky produces 95 percent of the world's bourbon.
