LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – The United States Attorney’s Office in Eastern Kentucky says “it is time for the Clerk and the County to follow the law.” The United States Attorney’s Office released a statement Wednesday evening regarding Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis's refusal to issue marriage licenses.

Davis has made national headlines this week by defying the U.S. Supreme Court’s order to issue marriage licenses. She has been refusing to issue marriage licenses to all couples in the wake of the Supreme Court’s ruling striking down the state’s ban on same sex marriage.

“We have grave concerns about the reported failure to comply with the court's order,” U.S. Attorney Kerry Harvey said in a statement issued Wednesday. “Government officials are free to disagree with the law, but not disobey it.”

An attorney says Davis and all her deputy clerks have been called for a federal court hearing Thursday morning. Rowan County Attorney Cecil Watkins says the federal court alerted him that a hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday in Ashland.
