LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Attorneys for Kim Davis say she slept well in jail and has no intention of stepping down.

In a press conference outside the Carter County Jail Friday afternoon, attorney Matt Staver spoke on Davis’s behalf after meeting with the jailed Rowan County Clerk.

Davis was sent to jail by Judge David Bunning Thursday after refusing to issue marriage licenses, despite an order to do so from the U.S. Supreme Court.

“She will not issue licenses that are contrary to God’s design of marriage,” Staver said. “All is well in jail.”

Staver added that she slept well with a clear conscience and loves God and the people of Rowan County.

He said he doesn’t know how long she will be in jail, but contends the Governor could have resolved the whole situation. Staver said Davis tried to avoid this “train wreck” but will not resign.

Staver added he intends to appeal the contempt ruling to a higher court by the end of the day Friday.
