LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- LMPD is investigating after one person was killed in a hit and run.

LMPD spokesperson Alicia Smiley says it happened Sunday morning in the 5300 block of Alanadale Drive, near Dixie Highway.

LMPD officers responded to the scene around 3:15 a.m. to find two women lying in the roadway.

Investigators say one of the victims was a woman in her 30s, and the other was a woman in her 40s.

Police say the women were walking west.

Authorities say an unknown vehicle was also headed west and hit the women from behind and then fled the scene.

Both women were taken to University Hospital, where the woman in her 30s later died. Officials say the other woman is still in serious condition.

LMPD's Traffic Unit is investigating the incident.

Police say the vehicle involved in the case may be black or dark in color.

Anyone with information is asked to call 574-LMPD (5673).
