Clark Regional Airport puts on Labor Day fest to draw community

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One local airport spread its wings to attract crowds, but not to travel on Labor Day. Workers at the Clark Regional Airport in Sellersburg put on the first Clark Regional Air Fair, Car Show and Balloon Glow.

There was something for everyone. People could check out corporate jets, retired military and home built planes -- even cars from different eras. The goal of this event is to bring the community back to the airport.

"They came out in lawn chairs and watched airplanes," airport manager John Secor said. "That kinda ended after 9-11 and those days are behind us and we've kinda come full circle and we would really like to see the general public come back out and visit our airport."

More than 7,200 people came through the gates today.

Secor says crews also started expanding the runways last month and they're hoping to finish by next summer.
