Jewish Hospital unveils new helipad

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jewish Hospital has unveiled a new helipad.

The helipad was built on top of the Jewish Hospital Patient and Guest Parking Garage. Previously, patients had to be flown to University Hospital, and then taken by ambulance to Jewish Hospital.

"What we are really celebrating is actually lives saved, outcomes improved," said Joe Gilene, Jewish Hospital President. "As minutes count – in especially heartcare – that patient is going to be with us sooner."

The more-than $2 million project was paid for with a gift to Jewish Hospital and the St. Mary's Foundation.

The project also included a pedway connecting the third floor of the Rudd Heart  and Lung Center to the hospital's cardiac labs.
