Dogs splash around in pool at YMCA to benefit cancer survivors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It might've felt like fall on Saturday but the dogs didn't seem to mind.

They still jumped in the cool water at the Northeast YMCA Calypso Cove Family Water Park.  Its pool season ended about a week ago.

The YMCA came up with this idea last year to let families cool off with their pets.

Bigger dogs spent a couple hours in the water after the smaller breeds had their turn.

They enjoyed everything from tennis balls and toys, to slides, ladders and fountains.

"It gives the people a chance to show off their dogs,” said Dr. Greg Crockett with Crockett Veterinary Hospital. “It gives the dogs a chance to get out and be a little bit social. You don't really have a water park area like they have here for dogs and rather than wasting the water it seems to be a way to multitask."

Registration was $15 in advance or $25 on the day of the event.

Proceeds support local cancer survivors through the LIVESTRONG program at the YMCA.
